100 Boats for Scotland

In October 2020 we secured funding from the Creative Scotland Open Fund to deliver a new project for young people - 100 Boats for Scotland - in partnership with youth groups around Scotland. Over the winter we will support participants to build a total of 100 model boats in their homes, youth centres and community centres.

We've put together complete kits containing everything the young people will need to build an accurate 1/8th scale version of one of our favourite boats - the Echo Bay Dory Skiff. We're posting kits out to participating groups, and then our own Daisy Martinez will run a series of sessions (in person and on Zoom) to guide the building and teach a range of simple craft skills!

Once the hulls are complete participants will have the chance to work with Mark Shiner, sailmaker extraordinaire from Orkney College to build a simple sail rig for their boats, and artist Rachael Hunter to decorate them.

Following interest from our friends we’ve decided to sell our boat kits to the public. If you want to give it a go yourself and build a beautiful wee model boat to play with in the bath, we’re selling them here.
