Archipelago Folkschool is a collaborative social enterprise that connects people with craft. We run short courses in beautiful places as well as getting involved in all sorts of things.
We’re delighted to share our programme of courses for 2020. We are keeping the best bits from last year, and adding new and improved events throughout the year. Once again, we start with weekend woodworking courses in Glasgow, but this year we are also bringing in exciting new makers teaching colourful signwriting and neon working!
From April onwards we head back to the wild west coast, building kayaks, canoes and rowing boats on Mull and Iona. This year, we are offering a wide range of courses: some of our courses are more focused on building a boat to take home; others are more about the experience, and the communities we work with. Regardless of the focus, all of our courses are carefully planned with excellent tuition, quality food and in beautiful locations.
We are committed to being open and accessible to everyone regardless of background, so if there is anything we can do to help people come along and join us, please do let us know.
In 2020 we are also doing more to develop our bespoke courses - so if you like what you see and have a group that you think might benefit, then please do get in touch and see if we can run something just for you.
If you’d like to be first to know about our next round of courses then sign up to our Newsletter today! We’ll have more kayak building, blacksmithing and boat building but look out for toboggan building, open canoes.
If you want to chat to us about whether one of our courses is right for you please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Start the year with Craft
We’re excited to run some classic courses and mix it up with some fresh new ideas this year. Our core woodworking boaty weekends in GalGael will be joinged by signwriting, neon making and shorter blacksmithing courses out at Drumsyniebeg.

We’re running our most popular kayak building weeks three times this year as well as bringing our boatbuilding on Iona week to higher heights with more elements and interest. Also for all those not yet ready for sea kayaks how about an open canoe? AND not to forget our flexible friendly family boatbuilding week.
